passions. Along with spending time with his
family, Richard loves the outdoors, playing
guitar in his band, and traveling. In the past

landscape industry has lead him to work on
several award

avant-garde Tempe Transportation Center
and Scottsdale Community College's
"GeoWall".  Early in his career Richard
started off as a high
school teacher in
addition to teaching Medical Spanish at
Glendale Community College. As a
contractor and landscape
and pool designer
Richard has found much enjoyment in
fulfilling the dreams of countless families in
the valley where he continues to beautify our

and pool at a time.
SUNWEST BIOGRAPHY
Through a combination of zealous eagerness to create beautiful spaces and an unwavering commitment to doing
whatever it takes to get the job done right
Sunwest has become one of the valley's mainstay landscape companies in
in the valley of the sun.  Tackling everything from the 3 story "green roof" atop the
Transportation Center light rail
station to the "geo wall" at
Scottsdale Community College Sunwest has continued to enhance the valley in new and
innovative ways since 1997.

Richard Larios was a high school teacher at mowing lawns on the weekends.
In when he answered the call to earn a
few extra bucks
, Richard and his hard working assistant banded together as a landscape Tempe High School
1997maintenance company under the name Complete Landscaping. Within a year Complete Landscaping began
taking on installation jobs since Richard had experience in bricklaying, having earned the title of Arizona's top
bricklayer in a high school vocational trades contest in 1987.

Sunwest's first big break came when a supervisor for a developer at a construction site for a new development in
Chandler noticed the team's hard work while installing a front yard. Sunwest was invited to work along side the
developer and bid on all the front yards for that development. Later that summer Complete Landscaping became
Sunwest Landscaping in order to appeal to developers and homeowners alike. The stage was set for Sunwest to shed
all its maintenance contracts and specialize only on landscape renovations and new installations.

In
2000, the full range of design and construction was in full swing. Richard  partnered with Jorge Aguirre who brought
a new design perspective to the Sunwest family. To reflect this partnership, Sunwest Landscaping took on the name of
Sunwest Design Build Architecture Inc. Under the new banner Sunwest mastered the art of fusing design, sound
construction, and value to the customer
.

In 2003, the company took a turn back to basics when the partnership was dissolved resulting in Sunwest Patio Areas
and Landscapes.
With the new name and the new direction to focus primarily on residential outdoor living spaces,
Sunwest launched a new era in residential landscape construction. The backyard was no longer just a patch of grass
and a square concrete pad under the patio. Along with a handful of other creative companies in the valley,Sunwest
ushered in the era of outdoor kitchens, outdoor living rooms, and outdoor dining areas. The backyard had evolved. An
era of
sustainable "green" construction was taking hold. Anything was possible in this new generation of backyards,
and everything was attempted and installed in yards like never seen before. The age of expansive outdoor kitchens,
huge lavish outdoor fireplaces, outdoor surround sound systems, synthetic grass, outdoor televisions, lavish
waterfeatures and consequently "fire features" were popping up everywhere in the most unusual forms and styles
imaginable. Sunwest had found its niche.

From
2003 to 2007 Sunwest enjoyed its most prosperous and busiest period to date. The post 9-11 and pre Great
Recession years proved to be the years that established Sunwest as a company that was here to stay. It is during this
time that Sunwest was called upon to appear in the televison show
Landscaper's Challenge on HGTV. Irene Larios
also joined the Sunwest family along with
Jon Tencza, Chris Quintanar, Jesse Lugo and Erin Conner.

In 2008 with the
Great Recession in full swing the steady flow of landscape jobs slowed to a trickle. The country was
experiencing a near financial meltdown never seen before since the Great Depression. Richard Larios was compelled
to find work outside of the field which he loved and quickly found a temporary home with the
Boy Scouts of America.
His love for working with kids which began as a certified teacher in Arizona had now come full circle. As a district
executive for the Boy Scouts of America  Richard found a steady income and a great job until the construction industry
rebounded. All the while, Sunwest forged on thanks to a steady flow of commercial work and residential renovation
jobs.

Today, Sunwest is looking ahead and continues the tradition of installing landscapes that embody creative designs at
a great value to our customers. In this day and age where every dollar counts, Sunwest is proud to offer our customers
the value, the quality, and the customer service that built the company in its early years. Richard Larios continues to
be the lead designer and Ramiro Estrada is still our construction expert. Although the times have changed, the
Sunwest team has managed to remain constant especially in our delivery of the principles that made this company
great from the start.
